Carnival of Silence

Medium-length documentary

It's not Pernambuco with its stunning seas that calls us, nor Olinda with its frevo and sensuality. The carnivals here, which vibrate through the exuberant landscapes of this state - this carnival marked by cultural diversity, noisy and insinuating joy... That's not it.

What calls to us is a presence only felt by those who embark on the paths that lead to the sugar cane fields.

It is there, in the countryside, that a myth born of men, only men, emerges. A strong figure, a warrior dressed in vibrant colors armed with his spear, a scream silenced by the carnation flower firmly in his mouth. He is a caboclo and he emerges from the woods, from the sugar cane fields. He is the spear-wielding caboclo, who is reborn every year at the Carnival of Silence.
